Feeling Lazy? There's An App For That
What's On Dubai|July 2018

From cleaning services to book swapping and Garfield-shaped pizzas, here’s how to get the most out of Dubai this summer using just your phone.

Feeling Lazy? There's An App For That

Rent a car on your terms with Udrive

WHAT DOES IT DO? Udrive lets you rent a car but has a very unique USP compared to other car rental companies – you only pay for the minutes you need the car, you can pick one up anywhere in the city, and leave it at your final destination. You open the app and it’ll tell you where the nearest available car to rent is. It takes the hassle out of driving a motor back to the rental company and paying a day rate. There’s no membership fees and is available in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi (you can start your journey in one emirate and leave the car in another) and their fleet includes Ford Figos, Nissan Sunnies, Peugeot 208s and more. You also don’t have to pay for petrol – Udrive picks up the bill, you just pull up to any petrol station and fill the tank.

Call your family with BOTIM & C’ME

WHAT DOES IT DO? It’s what you need now that Skype is blocked in the UAE. It’s fair to say the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) decision to ban it and other VoIP services at the start of 2018 went down like a lead balloon with UAE residents, but the solutions do work – if you’re prepared to pay. BOTIM and C’ME are the government approved alternatives and are available for du and Etisalat users for Dhs50 and Dhs100 a month. Check their websites for more details.

This is a city that works hard, plays hard, but, on a boiling hot day, can feel like hard work. So look at this month’s magazine as a little cooling comfort pack to see you through the summer season. Let yourself be whisked off to our favourite indoor bars and hideaways – with AC, summery feels and maybe an ice-cold drink to keep you chill. Then dream of refreshing dishes to fill your belly.
