THEY’LL never last, people said when they got together. She’s too big a star for him – she’ll get tired of him and move on soon enough.
But oh, how wrong the naysayers were. Twenty years later, Hollywood’s golden girl has one of the most solid marriages in Tinseltown. And the man everyone thought she’d drop like a hot potato once the novelty had worn off is still her dream guy.
Julia Roberts could have any man she wanted – hunky leading man, hot-shot movie mogul, you name it – but the one who won her heart was someone people called a “lowly” cameraman few had ever heard of.
She describes meeting Danny Moder (52) as “a seismic shift” and two decades and three children later, he still moves the Earth under her feet.
“Truly, to this day, to this minute, he is just my favourite human,’’ Julia told Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast. “Getting married to him – it was like, my life will never be the same in the most incredible, indescribable way.”
Before Danny came along, Julia (54) says she was “a selfish little brat running around making films”.
“I was my own priority,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “Danny changed everything. When I think about what makes my life my life and makes sense and just shines inside of me, it’s him. Everything has come from that for me.”
The real secret, she says, is they just “really, really like each other”.
“I’m more interested in what he has to say or his point of view than anybody else. We’re so lucky in that way. We just enjoy each other’s company.”
