The dial of a watch is sometimes referred to as its face. And just as it is the case with people, this “face” plays a huge role in determining the character of a timepiece. The final combination of colors, shapes, and patterns are as far from being arbitrary as they can be; every element is carefully considered and implemented to evoke a certain theme. After all, our sensitivity to design cues is very much visceral, given our nature as visually-driven individuals.
This same sensitivity presents itself well in Rolex’s dialmaking. The Swiss icon has long been recognised for delivering highly reliable and robust timepieces – the direct result of the uncompromising stance it takes when it comes to watchmaking. But its prowess lies in more than just the technical; Rolex watches have also always excelled at showcasing the manufacture’s skill when it comes to dialing design.
