REMEMBERING KENZO TAKADA

Known for infusing creativity and colour, Kenzo was recognised for his energetic, enthusiastic designs and prints. New Delhi-based textile designer, Peter D’Ascoli, pens down a heartfelt note on the legend

After the coronavirus pandemic was declared earlier this year and, as the worldwide lockdowns ensued and the seriousness of the situation became apparent, one truth kept buzzing around in my head: “the only thing certain in life is change. Nothing and no one goes unchanged.” And now, as we near the end of the year, we are counting the cost as our trials and hardships continue. The loss of life and treasure is heartbreaking and, among those taken from us was Kenzo Takada, the acclaimed Japanese designer who delighted his clients for more than five decades while creating a global fashion brand. His death in October at age 81 was from complications linked to the virus.
