We chat to personal finance guru and author Erin Lowry, on how to avert a cash-flow crisis and acually stash some dosh
Yes, Scrooge McDuck would have broken his neck. Still, even if we never wanted to dive headfirst into a towering vat of cold, hard cash, the idea of accumulating some savings is appealing. And yet saving for anything significant often seems out of reach. Surely the answer lies in making more moolah, right? Apparently not. Erin Lowry, 28, the author of Broke Millennial breaks it down for us.
GQ: If I’m a penniless millennial, and I want to save money, what can I do beside moving back in with my parents?
Erin Lowry: Saving money, especially in those times you feel it’s impossible, is more about building the habit than just socking away a ton of money. Seriously, putting just R100 away a month is important because you’re prioritising saving and making it part of your financial routine.
Then, as you start to earn more and get a handle on debt, you can steadily increase how much you’re saving without it being a massive lifestyle shift.
