Kulsum Shadab Wahab, CEO of Hothur Foundation, believes in giving back. She works to bring awareness about skin banking, the process of using donor skin to create grafts used in the treatment of acid survivors.
Shalini (name changed to protect her identity) was excited about starting her new job at a medical college—she wanted to earn money, independence, and a sense of identity. Unfortunately, on her way to college, men on bikes threw acid on her face. Shalini’s clothing dissolved into her skin, and after being rushed to the hospital, doctors told her that she had lost vision in one eye and hearing in one ear. Thirteen years later, she has had an endless circle of hospital and court visits to bring her perpetrators to justice. She received no aid or help, and the attackers still roam free. This is just one heart-breaking story shared by Kulsum
Shadab Wahab, CEO of Hothur Foundation. The Bengaluru-based non-governmental organisation raises awareness on acid attacks in India, while educating society on the importance of becoming a skin donor. They also work to give a voice to survivors as they are reintegrated into society.
