Surrounded by darkness as I entered the grand hall of Fondazione Prada’s Deposito in Milan, an eerie mood came over me. Not only for the show’s industrial runway set glowing amid the stark emptiness (straight out of a Ridley Scott sci-fi film, if you ask me), but also the mismatched ambient elevator music. Leave it to Mrs Prada to keep show-goers on their toes, as she proposed a haunting yet rebellious twist to the concept of femininity.
Setting the tone of the collection with a black onyx strapless dress, combat boots, and Wednesday Addams-esque pigtails, Mrs Prada’s interpretation of all things subversive was an invitation to explore the darker side of womanhood. But while the collection itself was entitled ‘Anatomy of Romance’, it’s worth noting how Mrs Prada seamlessly implemented the concept’s dualism throughout the collection.
