A spectacular 300-piece exhibition in Tokyo showcases key pieces from the 18th century to today – including previously unseen archives and special tributes to Japan
What does a house with a history spanning over two centuries do? Chaumet knows that its legacy and stunn ing pieces deserve of their own universe – and that’s what can be found at the its exhibition at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum of Tokyo.
"The Worlds of Chaumet" exhibition takes visitors through a journey of the Parisian house's history, culture, savoir-faire and links to the arts. Some 300 jewellery creations dating from the 18th century to as recent as today are on display, alongside objets d’art, paintings, drawings and previously unseen archives – including Chaumet’s signature tiaras, intricately bejewelled necklaces and much more.
There is also a section dedicated to Japan, which Chaumet has had strong ties with since the late 18th century. Just for the exhibition, Chaumet also created an exclusive High Jewellery set that celebrates cherry blossoms and Japan’s nature – a key source of inspiration for the Maison's designers.
We spoke to curator of Chaumet's museum and archives, Béatrice de Plinval (who has nothing less than 50 years of experience at Chaumet), about the exhibition and some of her favourite pieces…
