Picture this: you’re all alone in your room, attending a year late virtual graduation that only consists of a slideshow of your college batch mates’ names and photos, or you get promoted at work and instead of going out with coworkers for drinks, all you get are congratulations stickers on Viber. These are only some of the current realities that many of us face in the new normal. The old saying “fake it ‘til you make it,” is now considered terrible advice, but where the world currently stands, I’ll be the first to admit that I have done this in the past few months. Not in a way to be dishonest, but rather to project confidence and a sense of security in hopes that it will eventually be my true feelings. However, without immediate and physical feedback when little wins do come my way, it’s easy to feel that all the credit goes to the put-together character I portray when the camera is on at Zoom. Once it’s all off, all I feel like is a mess. And I know I’m not the only one going through this.
