LEADING WOMEN
TRUE LOVE Magazine East Africa|March 2020
Women should have either beauty or brains, never both. Or women are weak leaders... These are some of the myths about women that have been bandied around for centuries. WANGARI MUCHUI aims to disapprove these myths and inspire women to go after what they want. .

LEADING WOMEN

Don’t you just hate it when you are cranky, then people around you naturally assume that you are moody because you have PMS (Pre-menstrual syndrome)? Perhaps you are bad-tempered because you are stressed, fatigued or have low blood sugar. If a man is irritable, then he is just having a bad day and we ought to understand him. You never hear a man’s hypersensitivity and irrational anger blamed on irritable male syndrome (IMS). Yes. That is a thing. Men experience it when there is a drop in testosterone level which affects their behaviour.

The stereotype that all females everywhere become moody train wrecks at certain times of the month, and other lies, are what withhold women from attaining power and position in society. Let us bust these myths one by one.

WOMEN HAVE EITHER BEAUTY OR BRAINS, NEVER BOTH.

There is a joke about a man who had three girlfriends. For him to decide of the trio, whom he would marry he gave them each Kshs. 100,000 to invest. It was assumed that he would marry the girl who earned the highest returns. But he proposed to the one with the biggest behind. This reflects what society thinks of women. You cannot be both beautiful and smart. Consequently, young girls desire physical features that will appeal to men rather than developing their minds. But beauty and intelligence are not mutually exclusive. There are women who look amazing and are changing the world in form-fitting clothes, makeup and six-inch heels. Look at Michelle Obama. Do not let society, your upbringing or anything else dictate how you should look in order to attain power. You can earn recognition for both your ideas and your beauty.
