ASHWINY IYER TIWARI
Mapping Love by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari (Rupa Publications)
Who: Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is an acclaimed artist, filmmaker and writer.
What: A quiet gut-punch of a debut novel about grief, secrets, homecomings and a haunted past, Mapping Love follows Oorja Chaturvedi as she returns home, reels from loss, and revisits her past. Featuring missing fathers, dying grandfathers and a new-found love, the novel leaves a mark as it secures its claws in your skin.
Why: “When I wrote Mapping Love, I lived between two worlds that became a part of my life,” Tiwari says, about going from filmmaking to writing her first novel. “From page to screen became page to page, where a reader, according to their wish and time, is turning a page and visually interpreting and connecting differently.” With this first book, the author says she’s “living my life looking at the rear-view mirror, driving to the end of the beginning of where I started…peeling a past in present tense.” We’re ready to join her on this new journey.
