There’s an undeniable chemistry between the work of 1970s Italian design collective Alchimia and Pierre Hardy’s new ‘Atelier’ collection
When Pierre Hardy started work on his new ‘Atelier’ collection, Italian design from the 1970s and 1980s was clearly on his mind, subconsciously at least. The French designer noticed the shoes and accessories he had come up with resembled work by a radical group of creatives that operated under the name Studio Alchimia. Established in 1976 by Alessandro Guerriero, the studio set a new course for Italian design. It rejected the sleek functionality of modernism and set out to make pieces exploring fresh visual ideas.
