Bollywood's Muscle Man: Vidyut Jammwal!

Actor and martial artist Vidyut Jammwal, who was recently seen in ‘Commando 2’, is the man of the moment.

Having trained in kalaripayattu since the age of three, this ‘New Age Action Hero of Bollywood’, is the epitome of fitness. He even choreographs his own action stunts in movies.

In a freewheeling chat with us, Vidyut tells us all about his passion for fitness, good health and life...

Li’l Martial Artist

I was born into a family where everybody was into martial arts. Even my mother is trained in martial arts. I started training in kalaripayattu (one of the oldest fighting systems that include strikes, kicks, weaponry and healing methods) when I was three. I lived in an ashram in Kerala till I was 13 learning this art form. Kalaripayattu makes you agile and flexible if you start early in life. It also makes you disciplined and builds integrity. If you start late, you will require to put in more effort. It’s the mother of all martial arts forms. All other forms find their roots in kalaripayattu. I’ve separately trained in jiu jitsu (a Japanese martial art technique) too. I have also played every single sport – right from golf, table tennis, lawn tennis and so on…

I know a lot of people who learnt these art forms very early in life but never continued them. But I will never stop doing what I do…

From Modelling To Movies

I grew up to be a successful model and after my successful stint in modelling, I felt that martial arts needed to have a greater platform for its power to be shared with the world. I got my action moves recorded on a DVD to make my own action stories.
