Patient privacy and data security are the most serious considerations in healthcare’s adoption of cloud computing
Healthcare has become one of India’s largest sectors - both in terms of revenue and employment. Clearly there is huge value, both human and financial, in bringing new technology to the healthcare market. Over the years, the industry has come to understand and appreciate the technologies that are effecting these changes. The impact of the digital and the SMAC deck of technologies have been written about and discussed at many forums. We would like to look at the emerging trends in some of the areas, especially changes that are revolutionising data storage, retrieval and management through cloud technologies and the emerging safety measures in cyber security space.
Cloud technology
Cloud technology is widely adopted in healthcare sector worldwide. During the past few years, the healthcare industry has realised the potential of cloud computing and how it can help them give quality services to patients. The cloud technology has accelerated the way healthcare industry can use or share information across a network.
The healthcare sector values cloud adoption as it solves many of their complex problems. Three of the top cloud adoption trends that are driving hospitals and healthcare facilities to the cloud are:
1. Big data: The large data sets that are too complex to be handled by existing infrastructure, big data is among the top elements that pushes for cloud adoption for healthcare IT. Hospitals and medical facilities handle a vast amount of information on a daily basis, such as electronic medical records, laboratory reports and radiology images that require significant computing power and IT bandwidth. Moving to a cloud infrastructure allows the healthcare sector to utilise big data in the cloud where it can be properly and efficiently managed.
