During the day Carla Mitrani is a busy TV producer based in Buenos Aires, and by night she is an accomplished crocheter whose 3D work has been published and also requested by high-profile companies such as Disney. Known for her amigurumi of real-life famous folk, she’s also a dab hand at dolls of many fictional favourites – from Romeo and Juliet dolls to characters from the Star Wars film series.
Carla’s juggling act of keeping both her career and her crochet on track can be tricky – but she wouldn’t have it any other way. “My typical day is full of house chores and motherly tasks, plus my work,” she explains. “I’m a journalist and I work as the producer of a weekly TV show on national politics. The radio is always on, as I need to listen to the news. I read the papers, I watch other news programmes, I get to discuss who should we invite to the show and why and negotiate the terms of the interviews with their spokespeople or PRs… but mentally I am longing for those stolen hours at night when I’ll get to sit in silence and crochet. Sleeping eight hours a day is totally overrated!”
