Working in the round is wonderfully easy in crochet and gives it the edge over knitting any day! A magic loop is the most popular way to start working in the round, because it’s so neat and secure. However, some crocheters struggle with the magic loop technique and it cantake a bit of practise to get it right. In this workshop, I’ll show you an easy way to make a magic loop. All you need is some yarn and a suitable sized hook to practise with. I’m using DK yarn and a 4mm hook, but you can use anything you’ve got to hand. Let’s hook…
How do I start a magic loop?

A magic loop is the best way to start working in the round, but if you’ve been struggling, why not try it again with my simple guide.
Step 1 First place the tail end of your yarn in the palm of your hand, with the end at the bottom and the yarn running upwards. Nowwrap the yarn around two fingers.
Step 2 Insert the hook from right to left under the first strand of yarn and over the second strand, like this…
Step 3 Use the hook to pull this strand of yarn back under the other strand of yarn to form a loop on the hook.
Step 4 Carefully remove the yarn from your fingers, without changing the position of the strands. Wrap the working yarn around your left hand as usual, ready to work the stitches of the first round. Once you have a magic loop on your hook, you can start working the first round of your pattern. Here’s how:
