A converted warehouse with a secret lush oasis is the work of garden designer and true master of illusion Paul Bangay who welcomes us to his studio.
WHAT HAS INFORMED AND INSPIRED YOUR PHILOSOPHY AND AESTHETIC AS A LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT?
I am hugely inspired and informed by travel and being open to works and projects by new designers that I see working overseas. At the moment it’s the designs of Dan Pearson and his fresh and relaxed approach to planting schemes. I also develop an individual philosophy for each project by being immersed in the site and responding to its individual sense of scale. I find the site demands its own scale and sense of proportion.
IS THERE A COMMON ELEMENT OR APPROACH THAT RUNS THROUGH ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK?
Timelessness is the element I try to get to run through all my projects. I create this by closely linking the garden style with the architectural style of the building, thus as the house ages so too does the garden age in sync.
WHAT INITIALLY APPEALED TO YOU ABOUT THE SITE OF YOUR STUDIO AND WHAT DID THE ALTERATIONS ENTAIL?
