Plant breeder scatters seeds to fight breast cancer.

A bout five years ago, Carol Holsopple Froese was walking through her field and spotted a sole pink pumpkin among a new variety of orange ones. To anyone who has battled breast cancer, such an encounter would be meaningful. But this 15-year breast cancer survivor is also a plant breeder and a co-owner of Colorado Seeds Inc. Carol and her husband have developed many plant hybrids, starting in the 1990s with a variety of seedless watermelon. The happy pink accident, however, is the closest one to Carol’s heart.
