With the advent of Houzz and Pinterest, design has become so mainstream that everyone believes they are ‘interior designers’. However, designing a house is more than just collating a mood board; it requires spatial intelligence and technical know-how to elevate an ordinary space into one worthy of being featured. For Line2pixels, a young interior design firm which was founded in 2014, the challenge was not just to fulfill the client’s requirements, but also to intuit a design that would uniquely represent them visually.
Led by Janice Yong, the young firm had their work cut out for them in the modestly sized 1,200 sq ft apartment in Tamara Residence, Presint 8 Putrajaya. The client had bought the unit for Airbnb purposes and wanted that magic “Instagrammable” quality to distinguish it from the fray, but Yong and her team had higher aspirations: “Our main task was to turn the unit from the originally simple-looking condominium into a contemporary and chic home away from home. We wanted to create a space where it doesn’t just bring comfort to customers, but also freshness by using a stronger color scheme.”
