Symphony Ball in Nashville
Spread good cheer in high style at Nashville’s Symphony Ball. This December gala honors the cultural mission of the symphony while also raising money for its music and educational programs. Mandy Burnett, owner of Harper & Olive Salon, chooses a sleek, polished all-down hairstyle to emphasize the elegance of the event—and it will flow just as easily throughout the night, from dinner to dancing.
ALL-THE-WAY- DOWN GLAM
Step 1
Start with day-old hair treated with minimal products.
Step 2
Spray hair with Pantene Pro-V Stylers Heat Protection Spray.
Step 3
Divide hair into sections. Start with the bottom layer of the hair (clipping up top layers and then bringing them down piece by piece as you work your way up), and curl each section using a 1- to 1 ½- inch-barrel curling iron or wand. Be sure to turn iron in same direction each time. Then apply The One by Frédéric Fekkai One To Hold Hairspray.
Step 4
Use a soft-bristle brush to gently comb through the curls, keeping a uniform pattern. Finish look with TRESemmé Tres Two Spray Extra Firm Control. Add a hair accessory, if desired.

The Powerg Poinsettias
A little while back, a neighbor knocked on my door, hoisting up a ruby red plant so enormous it concealed her completely from midriff to head. I was new to the area, and this was her way of welcoming me. A poinsettia, vividly colored, overflowing its pot, and endearingly ill-timed-it wasn't even Thanksgiving yet. But the plant seemed to brighten up the whole world just a bit, as if daring anyone to reject the early holiday spirit. You could say it kick-started my love for the leafy shrub and what it seems to represent: a simple kind of goodwill.
