Brown Long-Eared Bat

THERE are lots of whisperings and superstitions surrounding bats. Even today, many people believe they are a sign of bad luck and fear they will suck your blood or get tangled in your hair. There are indeed three species of vampire bat, but these feed on cattle and small mammals – not people – and are only found in South and Central America. The myth that’s closest to the truth is that bats are blind. While in fact bats have quite good vision and can see as well as most humans in the dark, it’s true that their ears are much more important than their eyes.
