Breguet's abridged version of its technical pedigree is proudly on display with the La Tradition collection
French writer Victor Hugo once wrote, “For God gave us faith, and seeing it was good, improved it with a watchful eye” in his 1865 poem Les Chansons des rues et des bois. Without meaning to sound sacrilegious, Hugo’s line could very well have been used to describe Abraham-Louis Breguet and his numerous ground-breaking inventions, which have been ruminated over and improved on over the centuries; inventions that include the tourbillon, self-winding system, and balance spring construction. To this illustrious list of over 200 patents that his company has registered, one is inclined to add the ‘parachute’ shock absorption mechanism from 1790, which was revived and immortalised in the Tradition collection that launched in 2005.
