Celtic captain Scott Brown pays tribute to Tommy Gemmell and looks ahead to the rest of the season
SCOTT Brown loves how Celtic never forgets its legends, how figures like John Clark and Bertie Auld remain at the heartbeat of the club, inspiring the next generation with their stories of success. And he knows that Tommy Gemmell will always be remembered and celebrated by the club and its supporters.
The skipper was deeply saddened like the rest of the Celtic family by the passing of the club legend last week at the age of 73. The news came just days after it was revealed that fellow Lisbon Lion and Celtic’s greatest-ever captain Billy McNeill was fighting dementia. Given this season is also the 50th anniversary of the European Cup success that both men were so instrumental in, these events were particularly poignant.
It has been a tough week off the park in Paradise, but Brown knows that in these times of adversity the Celtic fans will always rally around to offer comfort and support.
When the View caught up with Brown at Lennox town for an exclusive interview, he paid his own touching tributes to Tommy and Billy and then revealed the squad’s desire to do their memory, and that of the Lions, justice on the pitch during the remainder of the season, starting with Sunday’s Glasgow derby with Rangers.
