Teenage midfielder’s delight at first Development Squad goal for the Hoops.

GRANT Savoury admitted that breaking his duck for Celtic’s Development Squad in last week’s 3-0 win over St Johnstone was a huge shot in the arm in his first season in the professional ranks.

Moments after entering the fray as a second-half substitute, the 17-year-old netted from close-range to double the young Hoops’ advantage. It wasn’t the most spectacular strike but that mattered little to the delighted attacking midfielder.

“It feels very good to have scored,” he told the Celtic View in an exclusive interview. “It was about time, definitely. I have had quite a few opportunities, so to put one away and set me off was very pleasing.

“I started off the move in the middle of the park and I played it out wide. The ball found its way around and Calvin Miller hit the byline and cut it back. I was three or four yards away from the goal and the ball was bouncing so I hit it back into the ground and it bounced up and trundled in over the keeper. But it’s a goal and I will take it.

“Straight after it, I felt that I played one of my better games, purely from the confidence it gave me. Getting my first Development Squad goal was something I was aiming to do as soon as possible, and in my position, goals are something that I am always going to be looking for.”
