Their prêt collection is a favourite among those who like to experiment with different textures and distinctive designs. They are called modernists and their designs are best known for the engineered silhouettes and geometric cuts. The talented fashion designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna recently completed 20 years in the fashion industry and we got to know more about them and their journey in this exclusive interview with Delhiites magazine.
You have completed 20 years in the fashion industry. How has your journey been so far?
The journey has been exhilarating! The industry was extremely humble and naïve when we started, fashion was not yet commercial and we designed to fulfill our passion. All in all, the journey has been great; filled with its shares of ups and downs but we wouldn’t trade it for anything!
Did you both always want to be designers?
Yes, we have always been extremely creative individuals with a passion for designing and the visual arts.
How has fashion transformed majorly in these 20 years and how has your design sensibility evolved in this time period?
There has been a big transformation in fashion over the last twenty years, the industry in the early years used to be more experimental, now it’s commercial. Added to that, the client of today is fully aware of the global fashion scene. We’ve learnt that staying true to one’s DNA is integral to success.
Not every partnership works in the world of fashion. But you both have been working together for two decades. Why do you think you both have such a successful partnership?
It has to be honesty. We’re each other’s biggest critics, we have the same sensibilities but the ways of achieving goals for both of us are different. Each day is filled with its share of fun and fights and in the end we always reach a conclusion that’s the best for the brand.
Please tell us a bit about your latest collection.
It’s a red carpet collection inspired by architecture, spirals and mazes. It's edgy and has sophisticated integrating elements like glistening silvers and crystalline blues with diaphanous appliqués and laser cut work.
