As they say, you have done your bit. You have either had a successful career or established a sound business and the financial returns have taken care of not just family’s needs but also left a tidy little surplus that could be sufficient enough to take care of your needs during these senior years. So, okay, you are also pretty well off in terms of health with a few minor aches and physical inconveniences here and there and now you have all the time in the world to spend on nothing but yourself. That sounds great! But then after a few days of lazing around comes the big question of how do you spend all those long hours of the day, and sometimes the night too. You need something to keep yourself occupied, both physically and mentally. As seen in the first part of our cover story this month, those whom we interviewed said that they had found their own channels of work or enjoyment so as not to get bored. Here then are some tips that should help you do the same.
Write Your Memoirs
Recording your past experiences and adventures will allow you to share these moments with loved ones and relay life lessons to others. Start by recording your memories in a journal or writing letters to a specific family member, such as your children or grandchildren. Try to write a little every day to get into the habit of writing down your thoughts and memories. You could also take a memoir writing class at your local college or university. Many university-level classes are discounted for seniors.
