Hair loss can occur due to various reasons, which include thyroid or hormonal imbalances, stress, illness, nutritional deficiencies, excessive oiliness of scalp, and hair can be damaged by chemical lotions or heat applications and so on. Thinning hair after pregnancy and during menopause is also common. However, hair loss in women does not normally progress to baldness, as it does in men. There is yet another condition of hair loss, known as alopecia areata, which can affect men, women and even children. It can progress to partial or total baldness.
Since, a deficiency of necessary food elements can trigger off hair loss, our daily diet plays a significant role. The diet should contain adequate protein, vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc. Vitamin B7, known as Biotin, is very important for hair growth. It is available in eggs, fish, liver, whole grains, nuts and seeds, avocado, yogurt, cottage cheese (paneer). Have a small bowl of sprouts daily. It contains amino acids, which promote healthy hair growth.
