The quest for Utopian escapism should no longer be limited to reveries of azure waters and ivory beaches. Fendi, an atelier that can be termed as a front runner for modern fashion steeped in heritage, is out with yet another blockbuster collection. The S/S 2018 show that pivots on futurism sent down the runway the infectiously covetable Colibrì shoes that are a perfect collision of craftsmanship and innovation.

Featherweight yet vibrant, the shoe is influenced by the eponymous tropical bird. Tonal hues are contrasted with bright blocks of colour, lending the ladylike footwear an athletic edge. The shoes feature rattan heels in their natural brown hues painstakingly handmade where each straw is cut one by one, twisted and positioned on the heels for a unique touch. We sat down with Silvia Venturini Fendi, Creative Director, Accessories & Menswear, the mastermind behind this collection, to shed light on its design process.
