Horses for courses: Entrepreneur C Mano found success by entering the equestrian business.
Horses have always played a significant part in the different cultures and mythologies of the world. And the winged horse is always feted for its power and speed. Even today owning horses is considered a symbol of financial prowess and status.
C Mano, the entrepreneur who established and founded Mano Equestrian Services Pte Ltd, gives power to the equestrian as the main distributor of equine products in this region. And he is the only Indian in this business. His vast portfolio includes pharmaceutical and nutritional products, feeds, vitamins and supplements, saddle and equipment, beddings, etc not just for horses but other small animals too. Today, his clients include not only the turf clubs, riding schools, polo clubs of Singapore and breeders in the region, but also all the big names in India such as Shapoor Mistry’s Manjari Stud Farm, Poonawalla Stud Farms and M A M Ramaswamy among others.
Mano, who had humble origins, developed an interest in the equestrian business when he first started working in a saddlery company. “I had no connections with horses before this. But my interest grew and in order to understand horses, business and my customers, I took up riding lessons. It was not that I came from a privileged background where horses were par for the course,” he said.
