Ingrid Chua finds a vantage spot in Windsor, where she gets more than a glimpse of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their wedding day
Windsor, Berkshire. Population: 32,000. It is a fairly quiet town located west of London, where Queen Elizabeth II and senior members of the British Royal Family decamp to during weekends. But on November 27, 2017, the town brimmed with excitement when Buckingham Palace announced that the wedding of Prince Harry to American actress Meghan Markle was to take place in St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
After millions saw the tragic passing of Diana, Princess of Wales and the heart wrenching footage of teenage princes William and Harry walking behind the cortège of their mother, many watched them grow up into fine young men with hopes that they’d be able to find lasting happiness someday. Prince William’s “happily-ever-after” happened seven years ago when he wed his university-sweetheart, Catherine Middleton. Now, it was Prince Harry’s turn.
After a whirlwind but intense romance with Suits actress Meghan Markle, he made his decision known to the world that she was “the one” for him. On May 19, 2018, hundreds of thousands of well-wishers descended upon the quaint town of Windsor for the festivities attendant to the royal wedding. I, along with three of my friends from the Philippines, was among the thousands who flew in for the historic event.
HAPPY PRINCE
Much has been written about the romance between Harry and Meghan. While there were those who weren’t too eager to celebrate the union initially, they were eventually convinced because of positive changes in Harry. After opening up about his emotional struggles he kept bottled up inside since his mother’s passing, he was finally at peace and happy.
