Fynley Evans might have been born the day before Halloween, but his holiday heart has always been set on Christmas. So when it was time to plan his seventh birthday party, his mother Heather brought the two together and planned his birthday party during the first weekend in November. “He loves Dr. Seuss, so my vision was green and red everything in a true Seuss whimsical wonderland based on the Grinch. Costumes and Christmas!” says Heather.
As she has since Fynley’s first birthday, Heather planned the party, finding time between her shifts as a full-time emergency medicine physician to search for Grinchinspired décor items and Who-ville-worthy recipes. “We’ve always had a big celebration in our backyard,” she says. “We pick a theme together, and sometimes I get a little carried away, but I can’t help it—the imagination is endless!”
Heather sent out puzzle invitations to 110 of Fynley’s friends and family members, welcoming them for the festivities. Guests were encouraged to dress in their “Who-ville best,” and many did just that, with whimsical dresses and Who-centric hairstyles. Fynley played the role of the party’s “Cheermeister,” donning a red corduroy blazer with gold corduroy pants, a vintage Grinch tee, a velvet red and green Santa hat with a matching red scarf, and even green shoes.
