For Teejay Sidhu, actor, film producer and radio jockey, her twin girls Bella and Vienna, taught her the importance of savouring life’s precious, fleeting moments
So, tell me, who is Teejay Sidhu? Has motherhood changed you in any way? How has the arrival of Bella and Vienna altered your life?
TEEJAY: I’ve always been a career person. I’m independent, made a lot of plans and have had a lot to do, so children weren’t always a priority. Now, things are very different. They’re my biggest blessing and my biggest priority. There’s definitely no going back. KV and and I always said that if it happens, it happens; if it doesn’t, that’s okay too. We decided to not get obsessive about it. Besides, he had a lot of things going on too, so he was okay with not having children just yet. When we got pregnant, it was after nine years of marriage. Before that, we had big plans. We wanted to do Fear Factor; we wanted to do Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, more travel shows. It was always such where one thing ended, another began. So, it was never really the right time to start a family.
The thing is, though, I’ve been a mother my whole life. I’m the eldest of six in my family so I’ve always been taking care of kids, helping someone with homework or dropping someone off at school. So, when we first got married, I was sure that I didn’t want to have kids immediately. I wanted at least five or six years of a break. I needed a break from motherhood. So it took time and we decided to leave it up to grace. Now, there are four sets of twins in my family so there was always that possibility of us having twins too. But we never thought we’d have twins. When we found out, we were really happy. My whole life, I’ve always ever trusted in God’s plan and when we got pregnant, I stuck with the higher plan. That’s how this all came to be.
