Manav Kaul knows how to balance his love and dedication for theatre and cinema very well. Read what the talented actor-performer has to say.
Tell us a bit about your upbringing and your first interaction with theatre?
I come from a very humble background. I grew up in a small town and a village in Hoshangabad, which is in Madhya Pradesh, and used to go to the government school. In that school, I saw a play for the first time called Mata Deen Chaand Pe. It’s a very famous street play and it kind of hit me. After that, I knew I wanted to do something like this when I grew up. You don’t understand that your childhood memories are the ones which shape your future and this incident had shaped mine. I moved to Bhopal where I saw a couple of plays in Bharat Bhavan and started my theatre career there in 1994. I was very young and absolutely naive. Theatre has changed me and given me everything I have. So, I feel theatre is the most important thing in my life. And I thank God that I took it seriously. Whatever I am is because of theatre and the plays I have done.
How would you compare theatre in India to Broadway theatres and plays in the west?
