It’s no longer just about fixing that frown or erasing crow’s feet. Market demand and competition have made aesthetic treatments more popular, accessible and relatively affordable, making it a lifestyle option. We spoke to Dr. Anna Hoo of the Anna Hoo Clinic, a non-surgical aesthetic care and wellness centre, for more on this booming trend.
Thirty-eight-old entrepreneur YC Ng, lies relaxed on the examination table at Dr. Anna’s office. She is being prepared by the nurse for her yearly ‘maintenance’ treatments, and since she is particularly sensitive to pain, Dr. Anna sedates YC with a small dose of anaesthetic. Within seconds, YC dozes off and Dr. Anna begins her work. She starts by strategically injecting hyaluronic acid filler onto YC’s cheekbone area. After the first jab, she checks YC’s face from a downward angle to make sure that the targeted spot is reached. “The filler already contains lidocaine, which is a local anaesthetic. But YC is more comfortable being asleep throughout her treatment,” explains Dr. Anna, as she continues to work on YC’s face. Nothing visibly pops up, but as the small doses of filler enter the skin, there are ever so slight changes on the areas touched, giving YC a youthful facial contour. It’s both science and art working on YC’s face, without altering her natural look.
“YC is a happy, energetic woman. Despite coping well with her work, she’s exposed to stress, and as a result, her facial muscles are constantly tensed even when she tries to relax.
