For the last 50 years, my passion has been shooting, in all its forms: game, rough, (sometimes very rough!), competitive clay shooting and stalking. When I was about 11 years old a chap was sitting under a hedge shooting crows in the fields at the back of our house and I wandered out and got talking to him. That conversation was to change my life, although I did not know it at the time. He and his father took me under their wing and got me started.
I then got my father interested and within a year we had leased a piece of Forestry Commission land and were running a small rough DIY syndicate. So when you are out shooting sometime and you bump into a youngster, take the time to talk to them and encourage them – they are the future of our sport and you never know where it will lead.
