A Winter On Helvellyn
Mountain instructor and Everest summiteer Zac Poulton is the latest addition to the Lake District’s team of Fell Top Assessors. Zac and his colleagues will be walking up Helvellyn every day during the winter months to suss out the mountain conditions – so how did he net this dream job?
Tell us about your new role… There are three parts to it really and all of them involve walking up Helvellyn. The first part is wandering up there and recording summit conditions. The second is just being visible out there on the mountain – a friendly face and a positive influence. Finally, we’re going to be running day-long winter skills courses introducing summer hillwalkers to winter conditions.
