The Big Little Lies star reflects on her career and the sisterhood of her hit TV show.
Nicole Kidman is a movie star known for her legendary acting abilities. She is poised and regal – a perennial showstopper. Her wildly dynamic and duly prolific career shows no signs of slowing down.
Big Little Lies, the seven-part series that received 19 nominations and 13 awards in 2017, marked Nicole’s return to the small screen, where she got her start as a teenager in Australia. After winning pretty much every award for her portrayal of a mother, survivor, and friend in the intoxicating series that premiered on HBO, it’s no surprise that Nicole just upped the ante for Season 2 of the acclaimed production.
As Celeste, Nicole’s character is at the center of the biggest – and bloodiest – drama in the quiet, luxurious California coastal city of Monterey. Her husband Perry Wright, played by Alexander Skarsgard, was an abusive, manipulative man who used his looks, charm and wealth to trap his wife in a terrible relationship. Season 1 ended with his demise at the hands of the Monterey Five – Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz). Season 2 adds another legendary actress to the cast, Meryl Streep as Mary Louise, Celeste’s mother-in-law, a woman on a mission to find out what happened to her son.
