Women are…

Empathetic

Marie Tang, 39, Lead Expedition Planner, InHerShoes

Having watched two family members suffer the debilitating effects of cancer, Marie began volunteering with InHerShoes, a charity that raises funds for the National Cancer Society Singapore. They recently forayed into organising vintage Vespa rallies abroad to raise awareness for cancer research with Singapore sidecars.

“I love that as a woman, I can be logical as well as emotional at the same time. This balance sets us apart from men and allows us to empathise with others on a whole other level. We’ve come a long way from how women used to live in the olden days. We’re a lot more empowered these days and more daring when it comes to blazing our own paths. I really feel that as a woman, I was able to better connect with my grandma and my dad who both suffered from cancer. That’s why it was important for me to do my part in helping them to overcome their cancer journey. By volunteering with InHerShoes, I want cancer patients to know that there are people out there rooting for them, and that they’re not alone.”
