How Omega did US$13 million of business in four hours, and what we can learn from this.

Gather round, and I’ll tell you a story about Omega and #Speedy Tuesday…Now, you’ve probably heard about the gloomy atmosphere at this year’s watch fair, and exhibitors and guests alike seemed unusually restrained. There is already so much news on this front so I won’t flog a dead horse here, especially when I have happier news to report. Before I get to this, I need to set the stage properly.

The term “Speedy Tuesday” was first coined by Robert-Jan Broer, the founder of watch blog FratelloWatches. Its premise was simple – as a recurring topic, various aspects of the Speedmaster would be explored weekly, one Tuesday at a time. This soon became a movement with its own hashtag, #SpeedyTuesday, with people posting pictures of their Speedmasters on social media every Tuesday, just like the original’s schedule.
