Sue Nicholls never dreamed she would lead a church, let alone start a new one. But the journey of Wakefield Elim Community Church is now underway. Ben Hampshire spoke to her
After spending years focusing on her family, Sue Nicholls embarked upon a journey to discover more of God at Regents Theological College – but little did she expect her Bible degree would then lead into ministerial training and a call to establish a new church. “My time at Dewsbury had taught me that God did want to use me,” Sue says. “I didn’t have any problems with women in ministry, but I did have a problem with me in ministry. But God showed me that he could use me and that I could actually lead a meeting; I could actually do everything that was required to be a minister, with God’s help. God really challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. I realised he wanted to use me. Dewsbury does have a Wakefield postcode, but myself and my husband, Gez, both felt God laying church planting on our hearts.
“We had looked at a couple of buildings in Wakefield and we felt we knew where God was calling us to within the community, but the buildings were not right.”
Although there seemed to be no open doors at the time for Sue and Gez, God’s provision soon started to shine through and confirm their calling to Wakefield.
