Tripura Rising
Tripura holds within it uncanny surprises bound to delight the quintessential traveller, especially the city dweller who wants a change of pace. It shares 800 km of border with Bangladesh, and has some historical and architectural gems worth an informed itinerary.

Jampui Hills

Touted as the only “hill station” of Tripura, Jampui Hills is situated at a height of 3,200 feet, close to the Mizoram border. Here, two U.S. Air Force pilots were rescued by brave tribal youths during World War II. The Tribal Research Institute of Mizoram has commemorated this event at the only accommodation option available here—The Eden Tourist Lodge at Vanghmun. The state-run lodge is very basic and attracts mostly local visitors looking for a fun weekend getaway in the hills. The village of Vanghmun has a few thatched restaurants serving noodles, pork pickle and rice. An ecotourism park has been developed by the government with a tall watchtower. Sunset views from here, with outlines of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the sundry mountain ranges of North Tripura and Mizoram, are spectacular. Famous for orange cultivation, the tourism department holds the Orange Festival every November. Jampui is a six-hour drive from Agartala.
