Sounds Of Training Camp Abound
So many things to ponder as the Washington Redskins ready for training camp?
Like, is this the last summer in Richmond? There have been whispers over the city’s unhappiness over losing money on the deal that runs through 2020. We’ll see. It’s actually a good setup for fans with a nice hill. It’s close enough to Washington. Surely the team will move camp to its new stadium in coming years, but until then Richmond is fine for two weeks.
Speaking of stadiums, one very minor hurdle was cleared for Washington’s potential bid by the Supreme Court decision allowing the Redskin to trademark their name. It now prevents politicians from opposing the stadium merely for politically correct reasons. Not that I thought that any politician would have the guts to make a final stand simply based on the name, but at least that excuse is gone.
Stadium talks are ongoing with Maryland, Virginia and the District. I have Maryland as a 7-5 favorite to keep the Redskins, Virginia 5-2 and Washington 10-1. The RFK site just isn’t workable anymore and there’s not another available location in the city. But, the mayor will certain make a good show of wanting the team.
