While most global audiences associate him with Hollywood blockbusters like Mask of Zorro and the Shrek franchise (where he stole the show with the voice for Puss in Boots), the Antonio Banderas story began on stage.
It’s the same with his successful fragrance line; an olfactory experience is also about the moment.
Celebrity perfumes weren’t quite a phenomenon when Antonio Banderas inked a deal with Antonio Puig S.A. in 1997 to launch his fragrance line. It was the same year he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Evita. “Many people don’t realise that Spain has a fine tradition of fragrances; Puig (their fragrance portfolio includes brands like Carolina Herrera, Jean Paul Gaultier and Paco Rabanne) has a century old legacy.” Diavolo — the first Antonio Banderas scent, became an instant success and set the platform for a partnership that has lasted over two decades. The fragrance line has evolved through these years based on his many facets, but he’s quick to point out that ‘seduction’ is the common thread that connects all these perfumes.
