Arrieta 2-Inch,12-Bore

Ernie Foster
Classic Upland Guns

My introduction to Arrieta guns came 35 years ago as I dined in Spain with several other enthusiastic hunters on the eve of our driven red grouse shoot. The hunters were stately gentlemen of means, most of them accompanied by their significant others, all dressed in affluent, prim and proper hunting attire. As the superb Spanish wines were consumed, the gun talk surfaced, and soon we were discussing what pair of side-by-sides each shooter would take to the field. At some point the participant to my right asked, “What will you be shooting tomorrow?”

After listening to all the table talk about high-end English and Italian Side-by-sides, I was a little embarrassed to answer.

“My 12-bore Walther and a 12-gauge Lefever boxlock,” I said, rather sheepishly. (Those were the two best guns I owned at the time.)
