How have been the improvements made to the Scorpene-class of submarines in the past few years?
The Scorpene submarines are benefitting from technologies developed and used in nuclear submarines manufactured for the French Navy. This is one of the reasons Scorpenes benefit from the best acoustic discretion available in modern conventional submarines on the market today.
However, as the saying goes, the only thing which is constant is change. We are indeed updating our equipment and systems with the available improved technologies or equipment.
Naval Group has an advantage of an existing submarine manufacture programme in India with MdL. How can these strengths be leveraged for the P-75i programme?
Through extensive transfer of technologies, we can proudly say that Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) has today mastered the complete chain of submarine construction and it is at par with most other international shipyards manufacturing submarines.
Naval Group has already, in Project-75, achieved a high level of indigenisation through transfer of technology and has created a strong industrial ecosystem of MSMEs as suppliers. Besides, we have a rich expertise in designing and constructing the latest generations of both conventional and nuclear submarines of different sizes and tonnages. All this comprehensively equips us to propose a fully compliant solution with the maximum adaptation to meet requirement of Indian Navy for P-75I programme.
