It must have been quite a strange position to be in knowing that you were heading back into the studio after not being able to tour '20/20' in the ways you are used to...
To be honest, we were pretty excited about it. In the period when we realised we weren't going to be able to do things like we thought we would, we were bummed for a while. But the feeling of wanting to write again felt organic and fun. I would be sitting on my couch working on riffs one day, and then I would just be calling John up and asking if he wanted to jam on something new. It wasn't long after the release of '20/20' that we started working on songs like that. It's fun because this was our first batch of songs that aren't coming out on Rise Records, so it felt like a back-to-basics thing in many ways. It felt like we were rebooting the band in a way.”
So what were your immediate feelings after '20/20' had finally been released into the world? What were you proud of what you'd been able to produce?
It's weird because when we recorded it, we were all like, 'This is awesome, this is the next step for us'. We were so excited. Then we put it out, and we were told how we had to move the tour again after having to reschedule it once already. Because of that, it almost feels like it doesn't exist in a way. We have since been able to do a load of shows and played songs from it, and people have loved it, but it's such a strange position to be in. Because now we are talking about playing songs from this new EP, we have to factor in that we still haven't played '20/20' songs anywhere near as much as we would usually.
