Sometimes a band comes along seemingly out of nowhere - and has a big old crack at reshaping the scene in their image. In 2019, some would argue that band was The Faim.
Riding the highs of a hectic touring schedule following the release of their 2018 EP, 'Summer Is A Curse', by the time that the four-piece unveiled their debut album in September 2019 - they were onto something huge.
Snatching up every opportunity and traveling to new places across the globe, as The Faim returned from the UK at the tail end of 2019 they were already scribbling dates in the calendar for a packed-out 2020, but they soon found themselves sharply hitting the brakes alongside the rest of the world.
"We had to get used to what life was like when we weren't constantly busy and constantly moving. I couldn't listen to music for a prolonged period of time, and I was in a very different space," starts singer Josh Raven.
"I had so much happening in my life and so much negative stuff going on that I really struggled through. It derailed us for a bit, and we were all questioning where we were sitting, so that's why we were off the map for quite a while."
Having pieced together their debut album from the back of tour buses during gaps in their packed-out schedule, the pandemic brought about a jarring change of pace for The Faim. From within the four walls of their retrospective homes, Josh and his bandmates began adjusting to a life without the comfortingly familiar buzz of playing shows.
"We are a live band; we love playing live and we live for it. When that was gone a sense of inspiration was taken away as well, because writing comes from those energies and those feelings," the frontman explains.
