A BELLAGHY-based pig farm has won the UK’s largest ever export order to China for frozen boar semen.
Deerpark Pedigree Pigs is a family owned business, which was established in 1957 by the late Robert Overend.
Today the business, which consists of an Al stud and three pig units, is run by Robert’s two sons, Nigel and Robert.
The export order, which will be shipped this month, comes off the back of extensive work on the part of brothers, Nigel and Robert, who own the Deerpark Stud, with support from the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the British Pig Association (BPA).
A spokesman for the British Pig Association said: “Over the years, the Overend family has perfected the process of freezing pig semen, a product with which their top-performing customers are now achieving conception rates as high as 100 per cent.
