DERRY was plunged into shock last night by the sudden death of Derry City Football Club captain Ryan McBride.
The 27-year-old, who had been at the club for six years, passed away suddenly at his home just yards from the Brandywell Stadium.
There were no further details last night about the cause of his death.
The heartbreaking news came just over 24 hours after McBride led the Candy Stripes to a win over Drogheda United at Maginn Park, a victory which maintained their 100% start to the new season.
McBride had played every minute of the four games so far, leading Derry to their best start to a new season since 1996.
