With only 10,000-odd Instagram followers, Anupam Tripathi was virtually unknown until September 17 this year. Then came the Korean Netflix drama Squid Game where Tripathi plays Pakistani migrant Ali Abdul a.k.a. contestant #199. Today, the New Delhi-born actor can boast of more than 3.9 million fans. After having spent nearly a decade in Seoul, it is the popularity of Squid Game that has justified Tripathi’s decision to pursue a career in South Korea. The going, though, was never very easy.
